About

‘Not All Those That Wander Are Lost’

The above quote alone should tell you a little bit about me if you are familiar with J.R.R. Tolkien and his trilogy The Lord of the Rings. I freely admit I am a nerd and thoroughly enjoy Tolkien’s story, the characters, and all the lessons to be learned from the experiences of those we meet across the pages of Middle Earth.

Just as the characters in that story, I too have been a wanderer. Throughout my journey, I have experienced the highs and lows of living a life where seldom did the road map I drew for myself hold true. Life itself took me off course to places I had not planned on and to experiences I had not planned for.

In March of 2017, my wife Barb completed her journey with brain cancer after an 18+ month battle. We had 30 years of marriage before her tumor and those were the greatest years of my life. She made my life and the lives of our three children complete in every way including showing us how to live a life and love to the fullest even while living with a terminal disease.

During those 18+ months, I learned that writing about what I was feeling and experiencing was a release that helped me cope and survive. I experienced grace, hope, and sorrow, sometimes concurrently, and being able to write about it was a step in my healing which continues today.

Now, I have come to understand that living is not in the planning but life is really found in the journey. And that is what I hope Posts From Along the Road will share with you. That through the highs and lows experienced along life’s road we can come to know and even appreciate everything that life brings our way.

I retired in May of 2018 from 37+ years of work in the Information Technology field which I enjoyed tremendously. Yet another Nerd justification! In August of 2019, I moved out of my apartment, put all my household belongings in storage, bought a 38′ motor home, and am now living full time in it with my Doodle named Izzy.

Hope you join Izzy and I as we travel our great country experiencing all the beauty, majesty, and people we’re blessed to encounter along the way.

See you down the road….
